Posted September 9, 2011 Richmondville takes steps to protect its residents from hydrofracking

September 9, 2011 Last night, the Richmondville Town Board (Schoharie County) unanimously passed a motion instructing the Town’s Zoning Rewrite Committee to draft changes to local zoning laws that will prohibit heavy industrial uses, such as hydrofracking. The Board instructed the committee to present the draft language within 90 days and to utilize the input of subject matter experts familiar with creating such zoning regulations.

Schoharie Valley Watch applauds the proactive steps taken by the Richmondville Town Board and encourages area residents to support the first effort by a Schoharie County Town to protect itself from the dangerous practice of hydrofracking. SVW appreciates the thoughtfulness and diligence of the Richmondville Town Board in decisively addressing this critical issue.
