Posted 1/23/12- SVW holds Albany Press Conference

Schoharie Valley Watch held a press conference today at the Legislative Office Building in Albany to officially release the results of its study on hydrofracking. To an overflow pressroom audience and the media, Geologist Paul Rubin and Arthur Palmer detailed a network of earthquake faults and vast web of underground aquifers that make the Upstate region highly vulnerable to contamination from fracking chemicals and methane migration. Schoharie Valley Watch Co-Director Bob Nied said that “the most precious resource we have is not natural gas but clean drinking water.” Nied then called for “the Governor and the DEC to listen to the science, listen to the residents and protect that resource by prohibiting hydrofracking in NY State.”
