Posted 2/23/12- Blog started to track the spreading of “brine” on NY roadsHydraulic Fracturing Thursday, February 23rd, 2012
Jane Penrose of the Town of Ulysses has started a web site dedicated to reporting “brine” spreading on NYS roads. The term brine can be used to describe production or waste water from gas wells. It has been reported that NYS DOT has OK’s the spreading of this waste, which may contain an assortment of heavy metals, chemicals and radioactive materials, on State-owned roads as a “de-icer.” It is unknown at this time if DOT intends to allow the use of ”brine” from conventional wells only or if it will allow waste from fracked wells to be spread.
